Plan Austin
Goals and Policies
The City of Austin Comprehensive Plan will include goals and policies that support a vision statement. Each chapter (such as transportation, housing, economic development, land use) will include goals and policies.
Goals are statements of desired outcomes by the Austin community. They are intended to state the plan's intent as clearly as possible, so that we as a city know what we are working to accomplish.
Policies are high-level statements intended to guide city decision-making in a manner that achieves the Comprehensive Plan goals.
To achieve the goals and policies, the Plan will outline short, medium, and long term actions. The Plan will also be used by City staff, elected officials, developers, and stakeholders to implement those goals and policies for future development. It is used to outline the use of public resources, secure public funding, guide economic development, respond to trends and inform policy.
